Assistant Professor

Dr. Underwood holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision and an MS in professional counseling from Mercer University. Dr. Underwood also completed a post-graduate certificate program in marriage and family therapy from Grand Canyon University. He is a licensed professional counselor and certified professional counselor supervisor. His area of research is on the topic of self-love, having established a scientific definition of the concept for his dissertation. Dr. Underwood is the owner/operator of Rise and Renew counseling which serves the greater Atlanta area. Before answering the call to the field of counseling, Dr. Underwood had a successful career in broadcasting. His clinical specialties include self-love, anxiety, depression, integrated families, marriage/couples, adolescents, substance and process addictions, Christian counseling, and faith exploration. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Licensed Professional Counselor Association of Georgia. In his off time, Dr. Underwood enjoys golfing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
